Christine & Joe’s Engagement in Georgetown, Washington, DC

October 23, 2012

Christine and Joe had their engagement session in Georgetown, Washington, DC. We met at some gardens where entry permissions were pre-arranged by Joe and Christine. Unfortunately, the security guard and management would not let us in because I was a “professional photographer” who might take photos. Uh oh… I might take some professional photos of their location. Seems ridiculous.  Who needs to pay for special gardens anyway? We improvised and went to the nearby park and shot some great fall images. We then left the park and drove a few blocks down to the historic B&O canal and got some cool photos there. We finished up down by the Potomac River. This was a successful day with great weather, a great couple and a perfect location. It was a little difficult getting in and out of the city, and during rush hour traffic, but when the end result is great photos, I don’t mind the headache.

Shera & Mike’s Engagement at Montgomery County Horse Stables

October 22, 2012

Shera and Mike’s engagement session was held at the horse stables where she works and spends most of her time. Shera has performed in competitions with some of these horses. We started our session in the barn, which was fun because the hay bales were so high. I used the natural light coming from the open door in front and a door in the back. I generally like to use only the natural light and not any extra flash photography in these conditions. I want my photography to be as natural as possible. I don’t use flash, reflectors or any other artificial lighting during engagement sessions. Anyway, they brought their dog along who turned out to be a great natural prop. Keep it natural. That’s my motto.
