Laura & Dan - The Chapel at University of Maryland and Manor Country Club

May 12, 2012

The “getting ready” pictures at Laura’s parents’ house kicked off the big day. They live on the grounds of the golf club where the reception was held. Their back yard is the golf course, which provided a nice backdrop for shots of Laura. The bridesmaids were not ready, so I was only able to shoot Laura before leaving for The Chapel at University of Maryland. The chapel sits on a hill overlooking the campus. The stunning red carpet and curtains along with the pillars and wrap-around balcony provided a beautiful backdrop for their wedding pictures. Following the ceremony we took formal pictures inside and some informal shots out on the front steps and sidewalk overlooking the campus. From there we proceeded to Manor Country Club for the reception. We took the new county by-pass expressway (a toll). Although one is tempted to drive fast on this nice road with no traffic, I drove the speed limit, but we made good time. I managed to take a few images by the golf course just before the reception. Laura and Dan threw a great party with a good band, who they extended an extra hour. It’s hard to end the reception when you are having so much fun, but the extra hour is usually not very good (for pictures).

Laura and Dan had a wonderful wedding day. She was beautiful, fun and relaxed. Dan and the entire wedding party were fun to shoot. The guests had a blast too. I thoroughly enjoyed this wedding. It was great to see some familiar faces, Caitlin and Tim, whose wedding I did a couple years ago.

My Daughter’s Wedding

June 9, 2012

Ceremony at Loyola University Chapel
Reception at The Peabody Library, Baltimore, MD

This is a special wedding blog because it is about my daughter, Jen’s wedding. She married her best friend, Mike on this day. I was not the lead photographer for this event. I was a participant, although, I couldn’t resist the need to pick up the camera from time to time.  The photographer on this one was Steve Plantin. He is a professional photographer at The House of Representatives and my shooting partner at most weddings.  My brother, Mike who also occasionally second shoots for me, helped out as well.

Jen’s special day began at the Wyndham Peabody Court Hotel, where we stayed (very nice hotel with a lot of character). Steve arrived at 1:00 pm for the “getting ready shots”. Matt Buerhaus, http://www.buerhausdesign.com/ arrived around the same time to begin shooting the video.  Nicole Palermo http://www.makeupbynicolepalermo.com/ did a beautiful job on the girls’ makeup. I kept poking my head in the room (we were right next door) to watch and take a few shots myself. Steve went with the guys on the Towne Transport bus http://www.townetransport.com/ to Loyola University Chapel for pictures of the groom and groomsmen and then of the wedding ceremony. I took some pictures of the girls outside in Mount Vernon, Baltimore. It was a beautiful day...sunny and warm. We moved on to one of the park areas in Mt Vernon where there was shade. I shot there for a bit, then lead them into the bright sun for a few pics  in the square itself before getting a few shots on the steps of the Peabody Library. We then took the bus to Loyola. Jen is a natural in front of the camera.  The ceremony was surreal and beautiful for me, because at this wedding I was the one walking the bride down the aisle. I placed a remote camera in the balcony to record us both coming down the aisle. I continued to use it throughout the ceremony. I didn't realize how loud my 1D mark III was. I could hear it ever time I clicked the remote :). Following the ceremony Steve took some formal shots in the chapel, then we moved outside for some informal and fun pics. The shoot continued at Mt. Vernon and on to the reception at The Peabody Library.  The library is amazing! Jen arranged for a lighting company (not sure who) to do some extra up lighting and spot lighting. It was gorgeous! The band, “Nightsong” www.entertainmentexchange.com/bands/nightsong  was warming up when I arrived. They are one of the best bands I‘ve seen (and I’ve seen a lot)! Bennett Scher is amazing on the lead guitar. Kal-El-Gross, Elle Marchelle and Krystal Oliver were the lead singers. They could sing anything and they rocked the dance floor as they mixed with the crowd. I highly recommend this group.

Jen was such a beautiful bride. She always has a smile but on this day she was glowing. Jen has been in front of my camera her entire life growing up, but never was she more lovely than on her wedding day. Beauty comes from within and Jen has so much beauty inside. I was a very proud father. I am very happy for her and very happy to welcome Mike into the family.

The day went by so fast. Good thing I had a photographer J and videographer to capture the wonderful memories.

Thank you to all our venders, and a special thanks to Matt Buerhaus for shooting the video and to Jenn at Towne Transport for providing the transportation.
