Canon 5D Mark II Review

Ok, I got the new 5D mark II in March and have shot two weddings and two engagement sessions with it. When I shoot weddings I have four cameras going at any time between me and Mike (my second shooter). I use the Canon 1D mark III with a 70/200 IS lens and the 5d mark II with a 24/70 2.8 L Lens. So I don't use the 5D the whole time. But, I do use the 24/70 for most of the photography. The 5D has a full sensor so the 24mm is 24mm. Which is wide enough for even the smallest room or largest group. The 24/70 is great if I am close or a further out. At the beginning of that first wedding I used the 5d set at full raw file size. Which is 21 mega pixel. I found this really ate up my cards space fast. I even purchased I think 26 extra gig space to handle it and it went though that before the reception. I did start 6 hours before the ceremony. That helped use up space. If I'm there, I'm shooting. By the time I got into the reception I switched to my 1D mark II. I didn't need all those mega pixels at the reception. Quite frankly, I didn't need them earlier either. The next wedding I decided to use the camera set at S Raw 1 which is 10 mega pixels for the getting ready stuff and then switched to full file size for the bridal pictures, ceremony, formals and anything that I felt would require a larger print. This still used up memory, but less than the first wedding. The image quality was excellent with either. What did I like about the 5D mark II?
1) I like the full sensor.
2) I liked the feel. It was solid. The dials felt like they were upgraded from the original 5d. The body felt solid. And had enough weigh so I felt is had something other than plastic. It dedicated sync was metal not plastic as well. It just felt strong.
3)The Quick Control Screen was convenient at times. Especially when the room was darker and I wanted to switch ISO setting or file size quickly. I just punched the QC button on the back and the settings show up on the LCD monitor. I can see it easy and change my setting fast.
4)I like the idea of having video available, but I have not tried it yet.
5) I like the image. Of course. 21 mega pixels when I need it.
What did I have trouble with?
1)The focus at first. But that was me mostly. I was a little rusty from a long winter break. I had to make sure the the auto focus was on manual so I choose the focal point. I shoot most of the time wide open so the focus is critical. I have to be sure to place the focal dot on the subject (I use one shot) and not auto because it may focus on something in the background.
6) I couldn't open my raw images in bridge or CS3. Or light room without upgrading. So I upgraded light room (which was free), but had to buy an upgrade to CS4 and then upgrade the upgrade with the latest update camera raw. Then I was able to open my raw images. So, if you buy the 5D mark II you will have to upgrade to cs4.
Over all. The camera is great. I will use it as my primary camera for all shoots. The 1D Mark III will still get plenty of use. Especially on engagement sessions. It's because I use the 70/200 lens on it and I want speed. I still love the 1D mark III a little more than the new 5d. But it is growing on me. .
