Faye & Danny's Naval Academy Wedding

April 17, 2010

Opening day for me. My first wedding since January. Faye and Danny got Married at the Naval Academy in Annapolis MD and the reception was The Westin Hotel.

I first met Danny as a cardboard figure at another wedding in 2007. You see he was overseas and could not make Melissa and Art's wedding (he was best man) so they made a life size card board cut out so he could attend. I am very pleased to do his and Faye's wedding on this day.

Below are a few examples of the many wedding images.

I started with Faye at The Westin Hotel in Annapolis MD. Well, actually across the street at Varuna Salon Spa. That is a nice salon spa which I been to many times doing promotional work for them. And good massages I might at. After hair and makeup Faye walked over to the Westin where she got dressed in the Presidential suite which was a sweet suite. There I got a few getting dressed pics, picked up my second shooter Mike in the lobby and then left for the Naval Academy Chapel. Traffic was a night mare in downtown Annapolis but I avoided most of by using gate 8. The limo didn't however and that made the bride late. All was well as she did get there and the ceremony took place but was short and sweet. After the sword arches we went over the the Superintendents gardens to do all the pictures. The gardens were beautiful, the sun was shining and the temps were mid 70's. I knew several groomsmen and bridesmaids from past weddings so that made it more fun working with everyone. The late afternoon sun with some high clouds made for nice light. I don't generally bring to much gear to naval academy weddings as we normally have to walk to our locations and I like to shoot, not roll bags or lug gear. I carry two cameras, Mike carries two cameras and we both have a pouch of cards. 580 flashes on the cameras. That's it. After pictures it was off to the Westin for the cocktail hour and reception. The Westin does a great job setting up the cocktail area and the room looked wonderful. All in all a wonderful day, a great group of people, a lot of great images and fun.

Also bought a new Quantum Trio flash I and trying out. Worked great at times, other times not so much. It may have been me getting used to it. I will give a full low down on it in a few weeks.

Equipment: Canon 1d mark II w 24/70 lens, 1d mark III w 70/200 lens, 5d w 17/40 lens, 5d mark II w 24/70 lens, four 580 flashes, one Quantum Q flash and one Quantum Trio flash.
